Sighisoara, the birth place of Vlad Dracula Tepes (the Impaler)

Vlad Dracula Tepes (the Impaler) was born in 1431 and lived with his father, Vlad Dracul (the Devil) for four years, when they moved to Targoviste, in Wallachia. The house is located in the Citadel Square and now serves as "House of Vlad Dracul" Restaurant and the Museum of Weapons. The father of Vlad received the "Order of the Dragon" from King Sigismund after he distinguished himself as a brave knight in the fight against the Ottoman Empire. "Dracul," is a translation in the Romanian language for Dragon or Devil.

Sighisoara citadel was founded in the 12th century and still stands as one of the most beautiful and best preserved medieval towns in Europe. While visiting the House of Vlad Dracula and having lunch at "House of Vlad Dracul" Restaurant, you can also visit or see "The Church on the Hill," "The Venetian House," "The Church of the Dominican Monastery," and spot the nine towers: Blacksmiths', Butchers', Cobblers', Furriers', Ropemakers', Tailors', Tanners', Tinsmiths', and the Clock Tower. Sighisoara citadel is designated as a "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO.
